Apparently we all did 5Ks this weekend. (Kate and I each did one as well.)
I did the PG Heritage Festival "BEAT BEETHOVEN" race. The whole point is to beat Beethoven's 5th Symphony, which is 32 minutes long. And I did. I came in at 28:23. So I have a great pin that says "I Beat Beethoven" that I will wear whenever I go running.
Anyway, I started out behind this family of 3 kids who I guessed were 9 (girl),7(boy),and 5(boy) but I found out later were 11,9 and 7. Good thing. I was behind them for a while and our Library Chair Carla-- who is 53. (I only know b/c it says on the results.) I kept waiting for them all to get tired so I could pass them and feel good about myself.
I passed Carla shortly after the first mile but she and her husband were still right with me. Then I passed the 7 yr old boy. YAY! But, then he passed me back on the down hill. Don't worry though. I passed him and his older brother at about the 2 mile mark and was making my move on their sister.
My nemesis.
I ran next to her for at least a few minutes before I finally passed her. Hallelujah.
Then about 2 minutes later, she made her move on me.
Damn her!
And, she brought her 9 yr. old brother with her. And Carla. Apparently, the 2.5 mile point is my downfall. So if you want to make your move on me, you know when to do it.
As we were nearing the last corner I knew I couldn't let Carla beat me. She's 53 for heaven's sake. So, I made my move because I really didn't want to be sprinting in to beat her at the finish line because wouldn't that look pathetic?
So I made my move so I could pass her and gain a little self respect.
And I did it. She finished 2 seconds behind me. Shame on her.
The 11 year old will have to wait until next time. Today was not my day. But the battle is not over, sister.
Oh, and I ran on Thursday another 4 miles with Eden in the jogging stroller. This time I wasn't as bored because I remembered my Ipod. It felt great.
But, I still had that flat.
PS: When looking for a 53 year old woman picture I found this article that makes me feel a little better. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/30/health/nutrition/30Fitness.html

that's a great time! nice job luisa! and way to put that 53-year-old in her place, move over woman!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one running neck and neck with kids! My favorite was this boy who every two minutes said to his dad, "I gotta cramp, I can't do it." Then his dad would say, "We can walk if you want to, just let me know if you want to walk." And then the kid would keep running. I wanted to say to him "I feel exactly the same way!"
Looks like you are two ahead of Beethoven now--you would totally beat him in a piano competition.
